Description mu Barometer
A Precise Atmospheric Instrument for Your Pocket
mu Barometer transforms your smartphone into a dedicated, highly accurate atmospheric monitoring station. It bypasses vague weather reports to deliver raw, sensor-based data on pressure and altitude, presented through a deliberately clean and ad-free interface designed for utility and clarity.
Core Functionality and Analytical Features
The application serves a single, focused purpose: to read and log barometric pressure using your device’s built-in air pressure sensor (hygrometer). It then converts this primary data point into a suite of practical measurements. The pressure reading is displayed in your choice of millibars, millimeters of mercury, inches of mercury, or standard atmospheres. A central feature is the 48-hour pressure graph, which visualizes trends—a crucial tool for those monitoring changes that can affect physical well-being or predict short-term weather shifts. From the core pressure data, the app derives altitude, displayed in meters or feet. Tapping the altitude indicator activates a relative height measurement, setting a zero point from your current location to measure ascents or descents.
Operational Design and Data Presentation
Interaction is minimal and intuitive. A tap on the main display icon toggles the primary readout between pressure and altitude. For constant monitoring without opening the app, it offers a versatile widget with three visual themes and can show the current pressure value directly in the Android status bar. Data collection is handled by a lightweight background service that records a pressure value once per hour, building the historical log for the graph without significant battery impact. It’s important to understand that the altitude value is calculated based on the current atmospheric pressure relative to a standard sea-level model, making it a precise barometric altimeter rather than a GPS-based tool.
